International Conference Literature and Exile

Home

Exile is a recurring topic in literature. In light of the large amount of material that has emerged on the subject and the several studies that have been devoted to this topic in recent years, we must consider, and even contemplate for the first time in some cases, the power of exile in the creation and shaping of literary works. Concepts such as ‘exile’ and ‘the exiles’ should be reviewed to incorporate processes of cultural tearing with the unexpected change of country, as well as political, military, and economic exiles. Past and present in the struggle of exile generate a huge literary activity —such as creation, edition, readership, translation and censorship— that we propose to examine.
